The name of the village Sises has undergone changes throughout history. Archaeological evidence, including an ancient inscription, suggests that a coastal city named Sísa or Sísai once existed at the site of the current settlement.

The village is most likely named after the Cistus creticus plant, also known as sisaros or agkisaros, which is native to the area and produces the valuable resin Ladanum.

The primary occupations of the villagers in Sises involve animal care, beekeeping, olive oil production, and more recently, cultivating high-quality citrus fruits.

Finally, northwest of the village of Sises, there are 2 beautiful beaches, where you can bathe after a walk in the village.
