Turns out the village of Sises has had a few name changes over the years.
Old ruins and inscriptions hint that there used to be a
coastal town here called Sísa or Sísai – pretty cool history for a small spot!
The village probably got its name from the Cistus creticus plant –
also called sisaros or agkisaros-which grows around here and
gives us that super useful resin, Labdanum.
The folks in Sises mostly spend their days looking after animals, keeping bees, and making top-notch olive oil.
Lately, they’ve also started growing and picking citrus fruits, which has added some nice variety to their local hustle.
